The Leopard version of my HTTPMail plugin for Mail can be downloaded from here. Please note that as with any first release with a new version of OS X things may not be as stable as I would like. It works on my machine 😉
I have updated the documentation to show screen shots from Leopard and overall the installation and setup procedures are a little more streamlined.
Enjoy
Where is the “donate” button? I’d love to send some $’s, Can someone point me in the right direction?
I have the same problems as a few people above…
“Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email”
Anyone can help???
Daniel,
thanks for working on the plug-in.
that synchronize with server tip from John, fixed up my delete problems, and also labelled all my messages in Hotmail as read. (which is exactly what i wanted!)
thanks again Daniel
Great work.
Dank je wel ! = Thanks in Dutch 🙂
Thanks so much Daniel! You’ve made my life easier!
Well done Champ!
It’s working !!! You rocks !!!
Thank you a lot….
G*D D*MNIT! Microsoft have just change my hotmail account to Windows Live Mail….. You can only imagine how angry I am. Worst of all I won’t be able to use httpmail :+
Both my live accounts work fine.
Hi mate,
Thanks for your amazing plugin !!!
It works perfectly with my “@msn.com” email address, but, it doesn’t work with my “@hotmail.com” email address.
I don’t know why…
Thanks so much. What I liked the best that Mail recovered the Hotmail box presets from Tiger and my mail was visable again. Only the new messages were imported.
This really is great! Thanks again!
I <3 U !!!!

Why does httpmail not work with Live Mail?
As far as I know, every Hotmail account has been transitioned to Windows Live, so that isn’t specifically the problem.
Httpmail access has been grandfathered in to accounts, both Hotmail and Windows Live, that used it heavily, but any new accounts, and certain old accounts, will be unable to access their mailboxes through the system. It’s not Windows Live specific, it’s just another reason to begin transitioning away from Microsoft’s mail service now.
Installed fine, but same problem as Alan… Every time I quit Mail and restart it, the Hotmail account disappears. Any suggestions… TIA.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, IT’S WORKING PERFECTLY. THANK ALSO YOUR FAMILY FOR THEIR PATIENCE!! ; )))
QUENTIN
We can’t thank you enough. Great work!
Anyone care answering this question:
“I have the same problems as a few people above…
“Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email—
I’ve had my Hotmail account since 2001. Is this still too new?? I really want to get this work! =(
I don’t think it has anything to do with newness, I’ve had my hotmail account since 1999 and have the same problem. In perhaps a related problem, or not, does anyone else have trouble sometimes opening their hotmail page in Safari? Sometimes it just doesn’t work, I need to refresh Safari.
Thanks, John, I got it working. I uninstalled the plug-in and reinstalled it. The problem was that when I created my accounts, I had left the “description” field blank. This created an account called NULL, which hung the system. Typing in “Hotmail” or something similar in that field solves the problem.
I should mention that I just downloaded the Leopard fixes before trying this, but I don’t know if that was a factor.
^^thats exactly what i did wrong
i too left the description field blank
Somehow the problem I was having before (the Hotmail account would disappear after quitting Mail) has gone away. The only think I changed was John’s suggestion of Preferences>accounts>advanced “synchronize with server”. So, I’m not sure if that’s just a coincidence or if something else changed. In any event, it’s working perfectly for me now.
Nice one 😉 good job 🙂
thank you!
Thank you so much Daniel. On installation, my old hotmail inbox immediately showed up in Mail, along with all the old messages, and I was able to download all the maill I had missed since upgrading to Leopard. I consider your new plugin well worth a small donation.
hey~ really nice work!!!!
now i can uninstall entourage!!!
just wondering, why it does support live.com account =”=
it seems live.com should have the same mail server as hotmail.com has…
do you know why =P
It works great for me and when I use the sync with server everything is fine. My only problem is that when I add my hotmail account Mail turns into a processory/memory hog.
The problem only seems to occur when I have the hotmail account enabled, and I have chosen ‘sync with server’, if I chose ‘mark downloaded messages as read’ the problem goes away.
hi everyone.. i have the
“Could not connect to ‘hotmail.com’
Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email”
problem… could it be because the account isn’t old enough? it’s from july 2004… any ideas?
P.S: Daniel, thank you so much for the pluggin!!!

THANK YOU KIND SIR!
These words don’t sufficiently express my gratitude for all your effort you put in to this. (bowing low)
You’re a life saver and your efforts are much appreciated, my inbox/sent folders are as they were before the leopard debacle, better than I could have imagined!!!
Like everyone, I worship at your temple. However, after early success w/Leoard, updating to 10.5.1 causes Mail to freeze and/or does not let me quit and/or will not permit address input in the “TO” pane.
Thanks again, you rock.
Love it! Seamless, even on my old Quicksilver 🙂
Yet again the plugin does what it has to do.
Thanks for all the time and effort you spent!
You Rock!
super thanks 🙂
thank you! i’ve been looking for this! u made my day
at me the circle always turns but nothing happens 😕
In check-mail-connections window it says “could not connect with httpmail-server, check network connection or settings in account” hmm in the littlesnitch network monitor there is no traffic showing that that httpmail account even try to connect something. can it be that there is something in leopard (firewall?) that filter the httpmail from doing outgoing connections ?
i can not explain anything else… i get no “error window” or something it just trying to connect till dead.
10.5.1, mail 3.1
there was this other util macfreepops or something think it connect to live ? dunno if it is open source…
hmm when i try the url http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp into safari he ask me 3 times for my login :
host:bay130.oe.hotmail.com — port:80
host:loginnet.passport.com — port:80
maybe some people are already trying to find solutions and are at the same steps ?
strLoginUrl = “http://mail.live.com/”,
strDefaultLoginPostUrl = “https://login.live.com/ppsecure/post.srf”,
thank you very much
Thank you so much your work is very much appreciated.
Doesn’t work here… I thought my hotmail account was old enough, because your plug-in worked on 10.4 but it doesn’t work now 🙁 bummer!
Anyway, thanks for trying (I can see by the messages here that it does work most of the time – makes me wonder why it doens’t on my 10.5).
Kind regards,
Malvolio
How come old messages (saved into other folders on the website) show up in the inbox and junk, one’s that I read ages ago, say unread.
THANK YOU!!!!!! 🙂 I THOUGHT I HAD TO CHANGE MY WHOLE EMAIL ADDRESS!!!!
Thank you so much for HTTP Mail
Works perfectly for me!
Great Work! THNX!!
Thank you so much, great job.

sorry for all the posts, i have the plugin working perfectly on my macbook, .com account, my dad is on a .co.uk account and he is getting the same message as some of the other people posting here, the “outlook accounts now need to have a subscription” thing.
