HTTPMail Plugin and Leopard

Tonight I’ve had some success with getting the plugin working under Leopard. It still isn’t ready for public consumption, however it is coming along nicely.
Currently if a httpmail account is already configured it will connect to the Hotmail servers and successfully download the messages. Unfortunately sub-folders aren’t quite working yet, nor is creation of new accounts or editing of account settings.
Still, it is progress 🙂 Now it is time to go to bed and get some sleep. With a wife, two kids and a day job, I don’t get as much time to work on these things as I once did 😉

  1. Thank you Daniel, we all appreciate your effort!!!!
Hoping a public version will be availible soon : )

  2. Daniel,

Totally miss the plugin on the new system and very glad to hear this news. I’m also about to ditch hotmail for this very reason. Any thoughts about how long it may be?

Lots of respect for your software panache. Made me feel like a genius when I installed your plugin!

    Many thanks.

  3. Daniel,

Your software really is awesome and I am putting off my leopard upgrade until you get hhttpmail working.

    Thnaks a lot !

  4. Here is the MSN fix that works if you have the upgraded account

POP service requires that you use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with the POP and SMTP connection and use SMTP authentication. This is to ensure that your email address and password are not subject to tampering. The settings are the following:
    • POP: pop3.live.com (port 995)
    • SMTP: smtp.live.com (port 25)
    • Note: make sure you check the box that indicates that your outgoing server requires authentication (in most mail clients this is not checked by default).
    • Username: your full email address
    • Password: your Windows Live ID password
Well I hope this news is welcome, and thanks for being patient!

  5. I GUESS I WAS’NT AS CLEAR AS I SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

THIS IS A FIX FOR LEOPARD………MAIL………AND A HOTMAIL PLUS ACCOUNT……..

IT WORKS GREAT…….FOR US MSN OR HTTPMAIL USERS…

    GOOD LUCK

  7. I got my Hotmail account activated on Leopard mail! Follow these instructions on this web page. It looks complicated by it’s not at all and i set it up in around 15mins… I will eventually use Daniels plugin but for now this works very well…

I hope this all works for you too, saves you from sucking up to Daniel, ha ha…

  8. Holy dog doo! RICK 2 posts above is right!! W/ upgraded ‘LIVE’ account.. pop and smtp BOTH work.. I though he (rick) was some kinda scammer tyring to sell some kind of ‘service’ like “James”.. forget that!! That works!!

HOTMAIL NOW HAS POP / SMTP if you go ‘Live’ Of course Im a ‘paid’ homtail user.. not a ‘freebie’ user..

    Wayne

  9. Yeah shut your face Wayne, i’m not a scammer service i’m just an ordinary user who just wanted my hotmail on my Mac leopard Mail. Everything in this link i sent is free and it was something i found out by googling… For those of use that don’t want to pay for MSN, which is something like $19 then really follow the link i posted above….

Yeah Wayne it works if you want to fork out $19 to upgrade your hotmail account, for those of us that are not losers and have better things to spend there money on, then use that link i posted… When someone does it, post here that it works and tell me how great i am for letting you all know…

    James!

  10. I really miss this. Thanks for all the effort involved. Can’t wait for the Leopard version…(really can’t wait).

  11. Follow this link if you want your hotmail account to open on your Mac Mail (leopard!!!!)

Daniel you should really charge for your plugin. You said you work and you’ve got a family to support, why not charge everyone a pound and take the family on holiday, i mean after all they must be upset that your programing this script every night!

Well, this is the last post i’m sending… Look at the link… It’s free (shareware) and it now even has some diggs now… Anyway i read up from a developer’s blog from hotmail that they will introduce POP to hotmail within the next 12 months and they are working on it to get it resolved. So that will mean we won’t need plugins for mac mail any soonish for hotmail. But for the mean time check this link out, it really worked for me and i want to tell you all cause i was really pissed off when my newly installed Leopard wouldn’t run Daniels http plugin…

Check this out And thank me after! It’s Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Believeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

  12. hhtpmail plug-in is the bee’s knees. I feel a bit naked without it since upgrading to Leopard a few days ago. Thanks for the work DP!
What’s worse is that hotmail seems to be displaying “Page not found” errors on all my browsers (PCs and Macs) :=(.

In the meantime, however, I can forward my hotmail account to my gmail or any other account using this
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14848

Others may find that link useful…?

I’d like not to use my hotmail (in fact, I rarely do now) now but unfortunately some people insist on sending emails there!

  13. Yeah sorry about that! I came back from a Arcade Fire gig and i was a bit drunk when i wrote that and then Wayne’s comment got me going, ha ha… My hotmail still works well on my mac mail (leapard!) just to let you all know. The only thing is is that i have to load up this plugin when i turn on my computer every time, but once it’s on it works really well. But such a relief i’ve got it. I’m really enjoying Leopard, i love the 4 split windows you can flick through, being able to to preview anything in finder and the network set up is excellent.

Sorry for being hostile, i just wanted to help you all with my discovery…

    Piece and love!

  14. Rick –

I tried your solution to receiving AND sending hotmail (windows live id–upgraded)–I have Leopard , Mac Mail OSX…

I used all of the variables and entered in all of the info—I do RECEIVE all of my hotmail/windows live ID email— but I can not sent out on smtp.live.com (port 25) server on Mac Mail. Mac Mail tries connecting but cannot sent on this server–a workaround was that I used a gmail outgoing server, but my email recipients believe my email address is gmail when actually it is the windows live id. And yes, I did check off SSL.

Rick or anyone else’s help using windows live id for sending out on smtp.live.com (port 25) would be helpful.
    Thanks!

  15. While the little MacFreePOPs works, it does it not quite as elegantly as Daniel’s httpmail plugin. I would prefer to join the ever-growing army of those who will patiently wait until he is able to juggle the demands of his family and personal life with the demands of our ever-growing user group and finish coding the plug in.

You don’t begin to appreciate enough a thing until it is no longer there.

Take your time, Daniel, but hurry up…..!

  16. So I have now also joined the masses who upgraded and found that I could no longer check my hotmail outside of a web browser. How far away are we from a release? Like everyone else has said, I’ll be patient if you work quickly!! 😀

    Cam

  17. Same as everyone else, i miss this awesome app. like CRAZY! Using mac hasn’t be the same since… Thanks for this great work, Daniel!

    Walts

  18. G’day Daniel

  19. Yay! It great to hear there will be a Leopard release soon. Can’t wait to get my Mac life back to normal now that I’ve upgraded. Thanks Daniel for your hard work Daniel.

  20. thanks, please send the kids to a daycare for a week so you finish the plugin…. hahaha!!

    just kidding!
thanks for the plugin, been using it for a year, love it!

    canada

  21. I found this plugin about a year and a bit ago and have been using it until my Leopard upgrade.

I swear I was about to downgrade to Tiger before I found this page and learned that you were working on a Leopard version.

Thank you endlessly for providing one of the greatest pieces of software coming from the GPL/Indie Community…

You need a donations page 😉

  22. thanks a lot for all your efforts. By the amount of posts you can see how much the community relies on people like you. Spending time and employing skills which others dont. But I believe everybody has something to share and i would like to see that in our every day life more often. THX

  23. Installed fine, but the problem is… Every time I quit Mail and restart it, the Hotmail account disappears. Any suggestions… TIA.

  24. I too want to thank Daniel.
Please help me. When I open Mail I get ALL the MSN emails again, even after I have deleted them on my Mac. Is there a setting I’m missing?

  25. Thanks Daniel with your work!

one thing tho…. getting the same problem as Nabil on the 15th November…. when i quit and reopen the account has been deleted with a message saying that the Hotmail plug-in is not compatible with os x 10.5..

    Please Help

  26. I am so thankful for your help with this plug in. Now again I have no interaction with mcrsft. Thank you Daniel.
