Thanks, it works great. I do have a question though, in mail, the spinning wheel next to the hotmail mailbox keeps spinning and I can hear the harddrive freaking out when mail is open, I even changed the mail prefs to check mail every 30 minutes, but still spins non-stop, any suggestions?

I just installed httplugin 1.52 on leopard 10.5.4 and can now receive email but I’m not yet able to send email from my hotmail account. I think the plugin works but the “Incoming” and “Outgoing” Mail Server info is key to letting it work. The one thing that I changed that I think allows me to receive email is, in the “accounts” window I typed “pop3.live.com” in the In Coming Mail Server. I was told by an MSN tech that “pop3.live.com” is the new “Incoming” and “Outgoing” Mail Server for Hotmail/MSN.

Anybody know why I’m not able to send email? Thanks.

I’m using mac OS 10.5.3 and have installed version 1.52 recently. I’m not able to send or retrieve any mail from my hotmail account. I own this account since 2001, according to hotmail. I’m not retrieving any errors, mail just shows little triangles with ! in ‘m. Any Idea why this isn’t working for me?

I’m using 10.5.4 and just upgraded and everything is working great. I’m able to send and receive email. What I can’t do is delete the old emails from the previous version which isn’t that big of a problem.

For those who have the constantly spinning wheel go to preferences and make the box bigger by dragging the lower right hand corno and click on HTTPMail and unclick all the boxes and that stopped my wheel from spinning.

For all the other problems try doing different things to other preferences and maybe by chance it will solve your problems

I have been using httpmail 1.52 in OS 10.5.4 on several macs and am also having problems with it freezing up. It works fine for stretches of time, but occasionally mail will begin using 100% of the cpu and freeze up while checking hotmail. I then have to force quit mail, reopen mail, and race to the account settings to disable the hotmail account (or it will quickly happen again). In some cases I can then reactivate the account and it will work fine, in others I have to repeat the process several times before it works itself out. As I have mentioned I am having the same issue on multiple computers. I wonder if the mobile me syncing of accounts between these computers is related to the issue (or at the very least responsible for its spread to multiple computers).

Can’t send mail after upgrading to Leopard???

This is the fix for the outgoing server problems in Leopard using hotmail (might work with other os as well), it apperas Microsoft has changed the server adresses.

– Go to settings and select your httpmail account.

– select the server for outgoing mail tab and select edit.

– press the + icon and create a new server: this can be mx2.hotmail.com or stmp.live.com

– select use access code and type your hotmail username and password, and remember to have selected the “Use SLL (secure layer socket) tab”!

– the serverport 25 worked for me.

Hi. I’ve tried to install it but nothing happens. Nothing at all. No spinning disk, no error message. Nothing.

Is there a guide on what settings to use? I see a lot of people are saying it works so what exact settings did you use? I have an @hotmail.com account that I registered a long time before 2006. Any help would be great.

I have iBook Dual USB, working on mail 1.3, OS x 10.3.

My mail was working fine and I have a very old hotmail account and to retrieve it was your software httpmail. Yesterday, I installed Mailappetizer but when I found that it does not give notificaions for hotmail account, I removed it. Mail was working fine.
I then installed Growlmail, and subsequently Mail freezed. It was not starting up at all. I then removed from prefrences mail.plist and then it opens but it means that I have to reconfigurate from scratch. I started downloading httpmail but to no success and tried all options which you have suggested in read me.
Today morning I found that Growlmail list was still there in my computer and I removed it. However, now when I try to download httpmail and click on install, it says, could not create preference list.
Please give some tips.

I have done Disk Utility several times and also by inserting CD of my compter.

Hi this is for everybody…

The microsoft Server team has changed the protocol for using httpmail. So this program is not working anymore. At least the 10.5.2 version in last leopard (10.5.5).

The only thing we can do is buy a plus account of microsoft hotmail or wait for a new release of httpmail.

Hello, My MacBook is running Leopard 10.5.5 and I would like to use my free hotmail with MAIL and I already installed the httpmail plugin 1.52, but I do not receive any mail I just can send.

do you have any clues how I can fix that.

I have tried this with 1.52 on leopard 10.5.5 in mail 3.5 with no success. I followed all your instructions to the letter, the account is there but when I click ‘Get Mail’ the little gray wheel just spins and nothing happens, then I get the little triangle with the exclamation mark. if it’s any solace, I can send, just not receive, any ideas?

I just downloaded the new update and I too am no longer receiving new mail and all my bookmarked Rss feeds are not receiving updates either. I can send emails.

A pretty good / cheap service that forwards hotmail to any gmail account.

I got myself an ipod touch and since I couldn’t wait for you to abandon your family and create a plugin, I created a gmail account and izymail does the rest for about 1.50 a month.

hello I recently download your http plugin for mac os 10.4 tiger. I follow your instructions ( in the “read me “) and the instaling has been done successfully. But when I wanted to refresh the mail box for the first time it was impossible and this message appeared : Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email . then I tried to go to this website but I had been redirected on the msn for mac home page and now I really do not know how to solve this problem . please could you help me because I find your software very interisting.

Your sharing of the httpmail plugin has been greatly appreciated, or more specifically, your labors on the plugin and keeping it viable. I have used it for many years and I will miss it come September 2009 when the change of format renders it ineffectual. I regret having only words to show for my gratitude, but I felt that my thanks should at least be given. Thank you very much!
